set for September

Over the past few days, the colours of the landscape have really begun to change. Cool greens are fading to yellows and browns and the leaves are gathering rusty tones.

I love the colours that mark summer’s end, and herald September.

Collar de Pilar – with sleeves!

This year I seem to have the perfect September sweater – a long-sleeved version of Collar de Pilar.

You’ll remember that I originally created this sweater as part of the costume worn by the Carbeth Creature

Inspired by the colours of the home of my Mexican collaborator, Pilar Obeso Sanchez, this version has cap-sleeves (like the huipil it references, which are designed for a warmer climate)

Since we released this pattern, we’ve received a lot of requests to add long sleeve instructions. Some knitters like Steph have already whipped up their own long sleeved versions, but to make things easier, we’ve now done this for you in the pattern to. So if you’ve previously bought this pattern – or a copy of the Inkling book in which this pattern is included – you now have access to the the long-sleeve instructions too.

And since the cap sleeve sweater actually belongs to the Carbeth Creature, I feel personally very happy to now have my own long-sleeved version.

When designing this yoke I loved combining the warm shades of Asphodel, Horseback Brown and Hare with the rich blues of Lochan and Ardlui.

It’s such a satisfying autumnal combination, and somehow I am really feeling the browns and oranges this year.

In my Colllar de Pilar sweater, I’m all set for September!

If you’d like to knit this sweater in the same warm palette of Milarrochy Tweed, we have changed the kits in the shop so you can now choose between cap- or long-sleeved versions.

The Collar de Pilar pattern is also included (with a collection of eleven others) in my Inkling book, or can be downloaded as an individual PDF from the KDD shop or Ravelry.

I’m definitely going to enjoy wearing my Collar de Pilar this September . . .

. . . and am really looking forward to some cool weather knitting!
